“If I had a hammer. I’d hammer in the morning. I’d hammer in the evening. All over this land…” – Peter, Paul, and Mary
Well, I don’t find that I need a hammer very often, but I have been using my new miniature Black and Decker screw driver. I have hung a wonderful new shelf in my bathroom. I found this piece for under $10 at an antique mall called gidget’s (click for directions) in Opelika, AL. I love the look and added height of a small stack of books which I topped off by a playful little iron bug ($2). The candle doesn’t look like anything special, but it actually smells quite heavenly. I chose to buy gidget’s most popular candle, cupcake. I really do love a new addition to an unfinished room.
Andy Warhol as a brilliant commercial artist…
I recently have been appreciating Andy Warhol, through a pocket sized book featuring some of his fashion sketches and “perceptively funny observations.” Simon Doonan (the writer of the forward) best sums up Andy’s commercial artistry: “Business suits, lipsticks, insanely pointy shoes, long girdles, floral hats, pearls, perfume, brocade boots — the Warhol illustrations epitomize sweet post-war optimism, abundance, and fun! (10)” I envy his ability to draw inspiration from simple things in department stores and then transform them into elevated (but witty) pieces of art.
“Jewelry doesn’t make a person more beautiful, but it makes a person feel more beautiful.” – Andy Warhol (p. 165)
“When you think about it, department stores are kind of like museums.”- Andy Warhol (p. 197)
