Piccolo VIP Party
This past summer my senior level interior design studio class worked in conjunction with the junior level class to help the Auburn University Hotel and Conference Center design a new lounge named Piccolo. About 90% of the design was done by Auburn University students. We are very proud of the end product and we had a great time last night celebrating at our VIP party. The food is excellent and the setting is completely unique for Auburn, AL. Hard work pays off. War Eagle!

SIDE HOTEL: Sensational
I’ve decided that research for my classwork and blogging has to overlap and intertwine this semester. I’m a student in interior design working on my last year of design school at Auburn University. We are beginning to work on our senior thesis project which is a project in conjunction with the Auburn Hotel and Conference Center here in Auburn, Alabama. I’m doing some interiors research and there are great things going on in the hospitality industry. It’s very exciting.
I couldn’t look past the “Side Hotel” in Hamburg, Germany. It was completed in 2001 with Alsop Stormer as the architect and Matteo Thun as the interior designer (he’s from Milan, one of my favorite places for design research). It is situated in an area with little personality, but as seen in these pictures, it has many pops of color and interest found throughout it’s interiors. Matteo Thun discribes his concept for this boutique hotel’s interiors:
“Every ambiance is a made-to-measure atmosphere, worlds of sensation with the highest degree of individuality. We wanted to create a hospitality that can be experienced through all the senses. Sensuality through pleasure for the senses.”
I heart “The first hotel with a conscious” = Good Hotel
Seeking out the “good in us all.” Good Hotel is located in San Francisco, California. I discovered this eco-friendly hotel while researching my senior thesis project for interior design.
“The Good Hotel is a hip San Francisco hotel that practices philanthropy and believes in doing good for the planet. The eco-friendly hotel décor features reclaimed and recycled construction materials. Vending machines in the lobby are stocked with wallets made from FedEx envelopes and are one example of our inventive ideas to promote a good lifestyle. We are also as fun as we are inventive. You’ll find humorous touches like “Be Good” written on walls of your room.”
Not only that but I also discovered that it gets even more unique because it offers: “Good Pizza, located at the Good Hotel, has a philosophy as simple as its name: serving artisan thin-crust pizzas made with the freshest local ingredients.”
Just when you think : that’s good enough…there is more… “ Take one of our resident bicycles for a spin -they are free to use while you stay with us.”
AND you can take your best furry friend!
Find out more…the good just keeps on getting better. So Refreshing!
